YouTube is moving away from scripted series and toward unscripted content with its latest lineup of original programming.
The platform made the announcement during the 2021 Brandcast Delivered event. During the event, in an effort to lure in advertisers, YouTube said it is the #1 ad-supported streaming service and makes up 40% of total watch time.
The upcoming programming includes a six part docuseries from Will Smith about his fitness journey, a docuseries from Alicia Keys, and the final season of “Liza on Demand” from Liza Koshy. YouTube also announced a docuseries called “Ice Cold” focused on racial inequality and the world of hip hop jewelry. “Recipe for Change” will be executive directed by LeBron James and Maverick Carter and will bring together Asian American celebrities, chefs, activists, and creators to celebrate API culture. And “Barbershop Medicine” will be a special focusing on how socioeconomic status impacts healthcare and lifespan.
