Three Pittsburgh stations have joined the list of markets that have launched NextGen TV. WPGH (Fox), WTAE (ABC) and WPNT (MyNet) stations are now broadcasting ATSC 3.0.
The Pittsburgh stations join a short list of markets that have launched NextGen TV, including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Boise, Idaho, and Santa Barbara.
Kent Crawford, General Manager at WPGH Fox53 and WPNT 22 the Point said, “Broadcasting started here in Pittsburgh 100 years ago. It’s only appropriate then for us to usher in the latest in broadcast innovation. We are excited to continue this legacy and introduce our viewers to an extraordinary new TV experience.”
“At WTAE, we are excited to help write the next chapter in Pittsburgh’s storied tradition of innovation by launching the next generation of broadcast television to our viewers throughout western Pennsylvania,” said WTAE President & General Manager Charles W. Wolfertz III.
A press release this morning said that the participating stations are ensuring that “all existing programming remains available to all viewers, regardless of whether they receive their television service by antenna, or by cable or satellite.” Service should continue as normal with a rescan for antenna users, while cable and satellite subscribers won’t need to take any action.
