Think back to your beginnings. I’m sure that elementary school provided a basis, a backdrop for your development. It did for me. As I think back on those days, some were not as exciting as others. Let me be specific. Do you remember the series of inoculation shots we were required to take before attending school. Let me see. There was the tetanus shot and even a Polio vaccine. Not a good feeling. These inoculation shots were administered simply as a preventive measure to guard against contracting a disease.
In the business world, it is also necessary to inoculate against certain mental diseases as well. I believe that more people would start and build their own businesses if they simply inoculated their minds against these four Mental enemy’s.
My goal is to aid you today in developing your resistance to these mental diseases.
1. Rejection
There are two forms, External and Internal.
External rejection comes from, many times, the mouths of those who may be closest to us. This form of rejection can be a powerful force if it is recognized for what it truly is. “No, not now, let me think about it, I’m not interested, that’s not for me.” These are some of the clever ways that people opt out of an uncomfortable meeting. We have to understand that life has simply not had enough impact on that person to cause them to take a hard look at their current situation and to want to do something about it now. Get This….. It is not personal. They are not rejecting you or me. They are rejecting the business only…for now. Things do change don’t they? You are reading this because you have experienced enough in your life to want to do something about it.
We must know that it is quite ok. Not everyone is going to see what you see. Not everyone is going to say yes to partnering with you. Think about this. If everyone said yes, where would the opportunity be. I can assure you that this has nothing to do with establishing and sticking with your own dreams and goals. No simply means Not Now.
Internal Rejection has to do with those who are already partnered with you in your enterprise. Some will reject your leadership skills. They are not rejecting you. This is something that you will grow through. Notice that I said grow through not just go through. Some people will enter your business and have their own agenda. Get this…These individuals went into business for whom? RIGHT, themselves. So right or wrong, they are allowed to conduct their business the way they wish to. It may not be the more productive way yet this is also ok.
Here’s what I do when externally I receive a “no” from a prospect. I simply repeat this…GAME ON! I decide, right there and then, that I will show them that this business works. I simply continue on my prospecting journey. My Mentor told me one day that ” One’s opinion of my business is absolutely none of my business.”
Internally, when your Leadership skills are challenged simply commit to move forward and find another business partner who is open to your abilities to help them. You set your strategy and commitment with that second business partner and help them get to the next level in the business. You must believe that person number one will be watching and in due time will be clamoring and crying for some time and direction from you.
2. Deception
Very plainly put, You will have some people who will lie to you! Yes, some people in the business world will lie. Here are some examples commonly heard in the Marketing arena.
“Yes Ron, I’ll be on the training call tonight. I have already registered for the webinar. Yes, I’m coming to the meeting tonight at 7pm. I am going to acquire twenty customers this month for sure!
Now I want you to understand that you will experience this and that it is ok. I don’t personally feel that they are “toying with the truth” purposely. Something may have come up to change their schedule
There are also internal examples of deception. “Yes Ron. I am going to attain the next promotional level this month. you can count on it. I will add six new customers this week.”
The truth is that the, actions, calendar nor the mindset of these people ever matched so they simply lied to you. We must understand that it is also OK because this is part of the business. We cannot afford to get frustrated because of another’s decisions. We must realize that one’s actions and habits have absolutely nothing to do with our activities, dreams, goals and calendar. We continue to invite others to our information and build our businesses. Keep our eye on the prize. Is the Inoculation starting to take hold?
3. Apathy
I will be the first to admit that I struggled with this one for a long while. You have someone you are prospecting or who is in your enterprise already. You find out that some things have come up in their lives that is distracting them. Life is just beating them down at present. This causes them to detach from you and/or the business. At that time, we must show compassion for them. As a Leader we must be there for them and still continue to focus on our enterprise. We give that person space while continuing to carry out our goals and supporting the goals and dreams of the others. Compassion!
4. Attrition
Let us know some are going to quit. I have heard it said that “it is better to give birth than attempt to resurrect the dead” Yes attrition in our business does happen I liken a leader to a big Oak tree. Now an oak tree is firmly rooted ie, Vision, prospect list, activity, focus. leadership skills, commitment, energy endurance and inoculation. Now the oak tree will sprout branches which in turn will sprout leaves. Now when the leaves fall to the ground, the tree does not move to scoop those leaves up. The tree simply produces new leaves. In addition to this, the oak tree bears seeds which fall to the earth and duplicate the process. Yes people will quit your enterprise. Expect it. It is absolutely ok. I promise you this. With the correct instruction and prospecting system, you will never run out of prospects. Now my vision is that you get to the point that you have millions of people quit on you. What are you saying Ron? Let me explain. When you have millions quitting, this simply means that you have tens of millions more who are duplicating like the oak tree you are.
The best inoculation story I have ever read is the story of “the Sower” in the Bible. If you are seeking to further your business do two things. Look that up and respond to me with your comments.
To your success
